Students in Australia

About 59,240 international students came to Australia in January. This report is according to the findings of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Compared to January last year, this record shows a 111% increase. In other words, only about 28,030 students arrived in the country in the same month the previous year.

Even with this increase, the number of international students hasn’t reached the levels reported before the pandemic, said Australia Immigration Professionals. According to reports, the number of students entering Australia compared to 2019 has been reduced by 34.4%.

Categories of Foreign Students Arriving in Australia

About 30,250 of the total number of students who arrived in Australia in January are enrolled in higher education institutions. This record signifies a rise of 53% over last year’s record, when 19,770 international students were enrolled in higher education institutions. Australia’s vocational education and training now has about 13,610 international students. After this, there are 4,960 students from abroad in schools.

At the beginning of this year, the number of international students in the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) sector was 4,250. The record for the same period last year was 440. Australia Immigration Professionals concluded that there was an increase of 865% in the ELICOS sector in January 2023.

About 3,080 postgraduate students have also been added to Australian higher education institutions at the start of this year.
